Announced by Drupal project lead Dries Buytaert in May 2024, Drupal CMS (aka Starshot) is an ambitious attempt to make the 25-year old project relevant in the modern world.
Last year, to familiarize myself with its internals, I started a pet project devoted to horoscopes - Zodiac Zingers (and made regular updates on the progress).
There was no stable version of Drupal CMS at a time (the site was launched using beta 1), but observations turned to be quite accurate:
- Carefully selected set of modules is a powerful offering that could lower the barrier for using Drupal
- Flagship feature is AI
- We will not have new editorial experience soon
The year has passed, and last week the second version of Drupal CMS was released - based on the latest Drupal core 11.3, it offers performance enhancements, new version of AI module, but most importantly, long awaited Canvas - the new editorial experience.
That seems like a good opportunity to refresh Zodiac Zingers!
I have started to migrate the project from CMS 1.0 to 2.0, and going to post weekly reports on how it's progressing.
